BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Spending time with our Guests is one of the most important things our volunteers do. For many of our Guests, being genuinely listened to is something they have rarely experienced. Sitting with someone over a cup of tea and giving them your time may be the most valuable thing a volunteer does.

There are no age restrictions and no particular background required. The best volunteers are those with a genuine interest in people and a willingness to give them time.

Volunteering requires a commitment of at least one day per week. Full training and support are provided in all aspects of the work.

At Beacon House, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Every
conversation, every meal served, every clean towel given out — it all helps restore dignity, build trust, and bring hope to those experiencing homelessness in our community.

We are a welcoming day centre, open Monday to Friday, supporting people with
their most basic needs — from food and showers to practical help and emotional support. But more than anything, we offer a place where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

And that’s where you come in.

Why Volunteer With Us?

Volunteering at Beacon House is about so much more than completing tasks — it’s about connection.

Many of our Guests face isolation, rejection, and hardship. One of the most powerful things you can offer is your time, your kindness, and your willingness to listen.

As a volunteer, you will:

No special experience is needed — just a willingness to get involved and a heart to support others.

Our Volunteer Roles

We have a range of opportunities to suit different skills, interests, and confidence levels:

Kitchen Volunteer

Help prepare and serve meals for our Guests. This role is vital in creating a warm, welcoming environment and ensuring everyone has access to nutritious food.

Laundry & Showers Volunteer

Support Guests in accessing laundry, showers, and hygiene facilities. This practical role helps restore dignity and improve wellbeing.

Wellbeing & Support Volunteer

Spend time with Guests, offering conversation, encouragement, and a listening ear. Support Guests with making phone calls and digital support. This helps people feel valued and less alone.

Admin Support Volunteer

Assist with behind-the-scenes tasks such as filing, data entry, and general organisation. This helps the centre run smoothly and efficiently.

Prayer Support Volunteer

For those who feel called, this role involves spending time sitting and praying with our Guests. Also praying for the work of Beacon House.

What We Ask From You

We ask volunteers to commit to:

  • At least one regular day each week
  • Treating all Guests with respect, compassion, and dignity
